BORACAY - Philippines This January, we've been for the first time to Boracay. To get there we needed to fly to Manila, we spent one night as we couldn't get the last flight to Caticlan. We stayed at Manila airport hotel which is not so good, lucky it was just for one night. The next day, we managed to enter inside the airport after few security checks. People without air ticket and passport can't enter. We had a flight with Spirit Air. We arrived at 10.45 am and should fly at 1.00 pm, but they proposed to us to go on the 11.00 am flight, so good, we arrived 2 hours earlier. One guy was waiting for us to go to our hotel. It is better to book a hotel for 1 or 2 nights before you arrive to Boracay as there is no travel guide or map offer to the tourists as we can find in Thailand. This is the bad point of Boracay. Nothing to tell you what to do, where to go, where to sleep. From the small airport of Caticlan, we took a tricycle to go to the jetty (5 minutes), from there, we took a boat to reach Boracay (about 10-15'). The boat used to arrive at "White Beach" where is all the action but now arrive at the jetty. So we needed to take a tricycle again to reach our hotel. We've had fun. My son, almost 4 year old, liked it. The first 3-4 days we arrived, we got a bad weather, mostly cloudy and one day with rain almost all the day. And if Boracay can be a paradise by blue sky, it's very boring by rainy day as there is nothing to do. But the sun arrived and there we've seen a wonderful "White Beach", 4km of white powder sandy beach (don't forget your shade, it is so bright) and a crystal blue water. We did sailing on "Te Amo" boat with Vicente who is a very nice guy, I recommend him. It was so good than the next day we hired "Te Amo" again to make a round of the island with snorkeling (many colorful fishes & corals) at Crocodile Island, then a visit of the cave at Crystal Cove.
We really appreciated the rules at the beach. No boat can stay near the beach, they only come to pick up and send back people. For those who wish to do jet sky and parasailing, they are sent by a small boat to a platform located 300 meters from the beach and then must ride to the open sea. So the beach was for us. We did a relaxing Shiatsu massage at Nigi Nigi, just after a beautiful sunset which faced "White Beach". Filipinos in Boracay are very friendly. We didn't feel disturb by the vendors as I read before to go there. If they come and you are not interested, you just need to say "no" one time and that's it. We ate on the beach everyday and we really liked it. After we drunk some beers or cocktail on the beach bar. They put pillows on the sand and you seat or lie down. There, we really felt on holiday. For indication, I give you some prices: sailing: 13 US$/1h, Reefwalker 50 US$/30', kayak 2 persons 13 US$/1h, room minimum 38 US$/night, massage 13 US$/1h, glass bottom boat 19 US$/adult, 7.5 US$/children 1-5.
